Andrew Maynard taking over as Interim Chair of the UM Environmental Health Sciences department

by Andrew Maynard on May 31, 2012

From June 1 I will be taking up the position of Interim Chair in the School of Public Health Environmental Health Sciences Department, as well as continuing to direct the Risk Science Center.  This is a great opportunity to build on the work of the previous chair Howard Hu and prepare the department for my successor (I am only taking the position on for 12 months, hence the “interim”).  In the meantime, I am really excited that we have our new Managing Director Tracy Swinburn to take up the slack in the Risk Science Center and ensure that the center grows from strength to strength – even while I’m occasionally tied up in department business.

Over on 2020 Science I’ve written a slightly more tongue in cheek piece about the transition.  But despite the self-depreciation, I’m looking forward to some exciting developments in the department, as well as further strengthening synergies with the Risk Science Center. It should be an interesting and fulfilling year!

Congratulations, Andrew – it’s a good choice and I’m glad to hear it’s official! We’ll have to put an announcement together so the whole SPH community gets the news.
