Public Health Fairytales

by Andrew Maynard on October 5, 2011

A couple of weeks ago, I gave my students an exercise in designing a poster presentation.  Rather than focus on the usual stuff of readability, use of logical sections, figures etc, I wanted to start off with narrative, and how you use it to convey your ideas to your audience effectively – telling stories through posters in other words.

So we split the class into several groups, with each group being given 20 minutes to draft out a poster around a specific story – using just sheets of paper and a box of Sharpies.

The catch – each group was given a well known fairytale to design a poster around!

And how did they do?  I was impressed!  Here are three that particularly caught my eye.  Trust me, after seeing these, you’ll never look at a Public Health poster presentation in the same way again!
